Generic Name: budesonide (bue-DES-oh-nide)

Brand Name: Uceris

Dosage Form: Inhalation suspension, oral capsule, extended release, inhalation powder, compounding powder, oral tablet, extended release.

It has been authorized by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) that Uceris (Budesonide Extended-Release Tablets) drug is corticosteroid for the initiation of absolution in patients with active, mild to moderate ulcerative colitis. Uceris is suggested to be consumed once daily in the early morning time with or without food for approx. 8 weeks. The medication is a prescription corticosteroid medicine which is suggested to be consumed for treating mild to moderate ulcerative colitis (UC) under control (induce remission).

Drug Description:

Uceris rectal foam inhibits budesonide, a non-halogenated synthetic glucocorticoid, as the main active ingredient. It is basically mixture of the 2 epimers (22R and 22S) altering in position of an acetal chain. Both epimers are effective glucocorticoids enforced in a mixture of approx. 1:1. Budesonide which is designated chemically as (RS)-11β, 16α, 17,21 tetrahydroxypregna-1,4-diene3,20-dione cyclic 16,17-acetal with butyraldehyde. The experimental formula can be classified as C25H34O6 with 430.5 as its molecular weight. The rectal foam inhibits 2 mg of main active ingredient per metered dose.

Inactive ingredients: cetyl alcohol, citric acid monohydrate, edetate disodium, emulsifying wax, polyoxyl (10) stearyl ether, propylene glycol, and purified water. Propellant: n-butane, isobutane, and propane.

Indications:

The formulas’ rectal foam is referred for initiation of remission in patients with active mild to moderate distal ulcerative colitis extending up to 40 cm from the anal verge.

Dosage:

The recommended dosage of Uceris (Budesonide Extended-Release Tablets)regimen is 1 metered dose administered rectally twice daily for 2 weeks followed by 1 metered dose administered rectally once daily for 4 weeks.

Over Dosage:

Intense over dosage with this rectal foam is implausible. However, the rectal foam is captivated consistently and chronic over dosage may conclude in signs/symptoms of hypercorticism.

Contradiction of the Drug:

The rectal foam is repudiated in patients with a history of a known hypersensitivity to budesonide or any of the ingredients this rectal foam. Reactions have also included anaphylaxis.

Using Guide:

  • Consume the solution first thing early in the morning.
  • Consume the Uceris capsules as whole with plain water. Avoid chewing, crushing, or breaking of the formula before swallowing.
  • Avoid consumption of grapefruit or drink grapefruit juice while getting treated with this drug. Eating grapefruit or drinking grapefruit juice can increase adverse effects in your blood.
  • Practice appropriate disposal pattern for disposal of tablets in case of left out pills or pills with expired dates.

Storage:

The medication is to be stored at room temperature approx. between 68°F to 77 F (20°C to 25 C). Keep the bottle tightly closed to protect the solution from light and moisture. Keep the solution away from children, infants and pets. The rectal foam inhibits flammable propellant. Do not have the canister burned after use and do not spray contents directly towards flames. Do not expose to heat or store Uceris (Budesonide Extended-Release Tablets) at temperatures above 120°F (49°C). Avoid fire, flame, or smoking immediately post administration of Uceris.

Side Effects:

Consuming much corticosteroid medicine, in blood leads to hypercorticism. Long-time consumption of the solution can result in having too much glucocorticosteroid medicine in your blood. Following signs and symptoms of hypercorticism could be seen: acne, bruise easily, rounding of your face like moon face, ankle swelling, thicker or more hair on your body and face, a fatty pad or hump between your shoulders known as buffalo hump, pink or purple stretch marks on the skin of your abdomen, thighs, breasts and arms.

Adrenal suppression: When the solution is consumed for a long period of time like chronic use, the adrenal glands do not make plenty steroid hormones like adrenal suppression. Symptoms of adrenal suppression during treatment with this solution includes: tiredness, vomiting, weakness, low blood pressure, nausea.

Immune system effects and a higher chance of infections are formed post consumption of the drug. Consuming drug which weakens your immune system makes you more likely to get infections. Avoid contact with people who have contagious diseases such as chicken pox or measles.

Minor and non-serious side effects include: fever, pain, aches, chills, feeling tired, nausea and vomiting.

Worsening of allergies caused due to Uceris (Budesonide Extended-Release Tablets) may include: eczema (a skin disease) or rhinitis (inflammation inside your nose). If you take certain other corticosteroid medicines to treat allergies, switching to the drug may cause your allergies to come back.

The most common side effects include: headache, nausea, decreased blood cortisol levels, stomach-area pain, tiredness, stomach or intestinal gas, bloating, acne, urinary tract infection, joint pain, constipation.

Precautions:

  • The rectal foam is only to be administered rectally. It is strictly not for oral use.
  • Before using this rectal foam, use the bathroom to empty your bowels.
  • Each applicator is coated with a lubricant. If additional lubrication is needed, petrolatum or petroleum jelly can also be used for application.
  • Warm the canister in the hands while shaking it vigorously for 10 to 15 seconds prior to use.

The rectal foam can be administered in a standing, lying or sitting position.
